To become one, you gotta live with all the painful, yet beautiful experience; terrifying, yet incredible life; tiresome, yet magnificent feelings; harrowing, yet empowering sensations.

“The real world is not perfect, but you inspire me.” — Barbie The Movie

Watching Barbie twice this week just made me reflect on everything that I went through in my childhood and Womenhood for the past 27 years. The final sequence of this film depicts a doll that chooses to live her entire life as a human being, while knowing how horrible the real human world is and how devastating she will be when it comes to living. Nonetheless, she replied, “Yes.”

I cried a lot during the movie’s montage, especially when it depicted the complexity of womanhood, the mother-daughter relationships, and Women in general. The realization that this is something every woman experiences just slapped me square in the face. All the unexplained emotions, where you can cry because you’ve worked so hard but never felt like you’ve accomplished enough. For so many expectations that the outside world has of you.

Women are… Incredible; Various kinds of construction; Strange, freakish; A synthesis of every deepest feeling; All that cannot be explained in its whole.

Women are… In the shape of my late Grandmother, a someone I will always look up to. A person who affected me the feminine energy, in the most wonderful ways. A person who read her lovely letters to God to me every night, even when I refused. An individual who shown patience, which I am constantly lacking. Someone who taught me, nurtured me, loved me, and always smiled at me… Even when she was in so much pain.

Women are... In the form of my mother. The one I couldn’t just write on a single paragraph. A person who always gets up in the morning and ensures that everything goes well. A person who will never tell you how much she is proud of you, but you simply know. You will always know. A person who makes sure I have nothing left behind whenever I go to my trips. A person who is hard. A person who is the most protective of you. A person I don’t want to show my sadness and everything that I have in my head, because I don’t want to make her more disappointed, like she has always been.

Women are… All of us who always strive our hardest. All of us who has to always appear strong in any quivering moment that wants to make us cry. All of us who can stand motionless, despite the constant tumult in our heads. All of us who are always seeking for all possible meanings. All of us who want to be part of the meaning. It has always been more complicated with us, but I wouldn’t trade being anything else.
